Summer Gardening Tips

summer gardening tips from The Yard FairyNow that warm weather is here, it’s time to cary out a few maintenance tasks to keep your garden looking its best.

Make sure your sprinkler heads are clean and adjusted properly–call us for an irrigation review if you have any concerns

If you have a lawn, raise the mower setting to cut the lawn higher so it can better withstand hot, dry weather of the mid-summer garden season.

Remove weeds in the mid-summer garden before they set seed; look under plants for stray weeds you’ve missed.

Check your mulch and add a fresh layer if needed to improve water retention and keep down weeds.

Change your seasonal color. Hot weather requires different bedding plants. Now is the time to put in those heat-loving perennials.

Look at bulb catalogues and start making a list of flower bulbs you would like to add for more color in the garden next spring. Call us to set up a fall bulb planting magical makeover.

Going on vacation this summer? Make arrangements now to have a friend water your container plants during your absence! You can also call us if you need your containers to be hooked up to your automatic irrigation system.

Remember that Fall is a wonderful time to be planting your new yard – cooler weather and more available water help the plants get a great start. Summer is a great time to be planning for that new Fall landscape or flower bed.
